What the calculator does
The calculator uses a proportion sample-size estimate and then applies a finite-population correction. A smaller expected defect rate does not automatically mean a tiny sample: confidence, precision, population size, product mix, and the approved QC plan all affect the production decision.
What it does not decide
It does not select loans, validate a statistical methodology for your institution, replace discretionary or early-payment-default reviews, or prove compliance with an agency or investor requirement. Qualified personnel should approve the method and parameters before use.
Preserve the selection evidence
A defensible cycle records the complete population, method, parameters, random seed, strata, selected order, final membership, and any targeted selections kept outside the random denominator. Read the mortgage QC sampling guide or see how ExactClose locks the complete review cycle.
Keep decisions human and evidence explicit.
The calculator does not validate a statistical methodology, select loans, or replace the lender’s approved QC plan.
